Non-Healing Wounds

Pressure sores in bedridden patients, diabetic foot ulcers, wounds resulting from accidents, and chronic ulcers are all treated with appropriate wound care and tissue transfer. Long-standing wounds may also be caused by a tumor.

Skin cancer can cause wounds to open. These must be assessed and the wounds closed as soon as possible. We have developed numerous methods that facilitate the closure of these wounds, which have also been published in the literature.

Pressure Sores

They occur as a result of prolonged lying down and sitting. Since they usually have sensory impairment, these patients do not feel discomfort in the early stages of the wound formation. Diabetics, the elderly, and paralyzed individuals are usually in this condition. Relatives of such patients should help them change position every hour. First, redness occurs. If the position is not changed at this stage, the area develops into a wound. These wounds usually occur on the sacrum, which is the tailbone, and the ischium, which is the sitting bone. After this stage, the wounds can be closed by surgery using methods such as dressing treatment or tissue transfer. Patients who have lived with the wound for years can be relieved of this problem with a one-hour surgery.

Diabetic Foot Ulcers

Wound healing is impaired in diabetic patients. In individuals whose blood sugar cannot be controlled, many physiological mechanisms prevent blood and oxygen from reaching the tissues. As tissue nutrition is impaired, ulcers develop, particularly on the feet. We can manage the situation with proper care and dressing treatment before or immediately after a wound develops. However, in advanced wounds, surgery is required due to blocked blood vessels.

In elderly individuals, immobility and inability to care for themselves due to advancing disease contribute to all these problems. Early diagnosis and treatment are always necessary to overcome these problems before the wounds become too advanced.
