The upper and lower eyelid surgery can be performed simultaneously. It can be performed under general or local anesthesia. Recovery for these surgeries takes approximately one week. The most important thing to consider in these patients is to determine the relationship between the lower eyelid and the tissues in the cheekbone area, which we call the midface. Even with the best lower eyelid surgery, if the relationship between the lower eyelid and the midface is not well-defined, we will never achieve the desired results. After the stitches are removed during the surgery, we use special tapes. We only close the wound with these tapes. We do not close the eyes. This means the patient can see normally after surgery. We remove these tapes approximately the second day. We also apply a special cream to encourage the patient to return to their normal activities, but minor bruising or swelling usually resolves within about a week.
